AI vs. AI

It’s pretty amazing to see how quickly AI went from an interesting novelty that could help mankind create cool stuff to a job killing threat to human civilization. At both iHeart and LG, I’ve worked on campaigns that have painted the evolving technology in very different lights.

As a bit of a cynic and pessimist (some old friends call me Doomsday Dusty), it's rare that I am genuinely proud of a bit of marketing I've worked on for reasons beyond creative aesthetics. But in late 2025, when iHeart decided to publicly promise to keep its radio stations and podcasts free of AI-generated music, DJs and show hosts, that was a campaign I was thrilled to be part of.

Humanizing AI is particularly important for LG, since the electronics giant incorporates it into an astounding array of products, from TVs to refrigerators. So, back in 2019, we got some of the brand's most brilliant nerds together with pop star Betty Who (she made the Queer Eye song), in an effort to bridge the gap between data-based AI and real human emotion.
